Georgetown University has earned a prestigious ranking as the second-best university for women in computer science, just behind Carnegie Mellon University, according to Washington Monthly. This recognition highlights Georgetown’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment in the field. 40-45% of Georgetown’s computer science majors are women, a statistic that significantly exceeds the national average. This achievement reflects the University’s dedication to promoting diversity and empowering women in STEM, encouraging more women to pursue their passion for technology.
Lisa Singh, the Computer Science Department Chair, emphasized the long-standing efforts that contributed to this achievement: “The CS Department at Georgetown has been committed to improving the diversity of our student body for over a decade. I am thrilled to see our progress and this recognition of our efforts. Of course, there is still more to do, and I believe the faculty, staff, and students in the department will work together to continue finding innovative ways to increase diversity and help our diverse student population succeed.”
As Georgetown continues to champion gender equity in computer science, this accolade serves as a testament to the hard work of students, faculty, and staff. For more details on the ranking, visit Washington Monthly’s full article here.
