The Department of Computer Science at Georgetown University, located in the heart of Washington, DC, is home to higher education and advanced research in computer science and at the intersection of technology, society, and ethics.
Our faculty are thought leaders in theory and algorithms; artificial intelligence; data and information systems; security, privacy, and cryptography; systems, networking, and architecture; and computing and society. Faculty members in the department have been honored with a Gödel Prize, Test-of-Time awards, membership in the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, NSF CAREER awards, and Best Paper awards, among other accolades.
Our educational opportunities include graduate education at the Master’s and Ph.D. levels and three undergraduate majors, a minor, and a certificate program. We also engage in multiple interdisciplinary minors and have a post-baccalaureate program for students with non-CS undergraduate degrees. Our programs not only expose students to the foundations of computer science, but they also connect students to new ideas and unique opportunities to shape the digital world we live in.
Because our department is small, we provide considerable opportunity for interaction with faculty through independent studies, research, and social events. We are a student-centric department that focuses on providing students with a rich education in small classes. We engage our students in research that shapes the next generation of technology both in terms of technical innovation and societal impact. Being in the heart of Washington, D.C., also gives our students a vibrant quality of life and unique opportunities to engage in public and private sector internships, local computing groups, and regional events.
