- Technical Rigor: Our students express their mastery of concepts through their quality and craft of what they build. The curriculum focuses on the mathematical, theoretical, applied, and systems-level foundations of computer science that remain durable across tools and decades.
- An AI-Conscious Pedagogy: We use AI deliberately as a learning aid, protecting the curricular experience from its de-learning effects. We utilize AI to support learning through code critique and verification. We teach the fundamentals of AI to support computer science theoretical and applied innovation.
- Embedded Ethics: We integrate Societal, Ethical, and Professional issues directly into technical coverage, preparing students to engage critically with the outcomes and impacts of what they build.
- Creativity and Building. We center students’ capacity to both design well and to make well—concept and craft. Students do things, not just analyze them.
- Safety Aware. Students design and build with the question of what breaks. Privacy, security, and safety are not isolated to a single course but a discipline of attention—applied across the curriculum, in theoretical and applied work alike—so students develop the habit of thinking about failure modes, adversarial conditions, and unintended consequences alongside intended function.
- Interdisciplinary Reach. Students render computer science expertise that is usable in complex problems beyond CS itself; the discipline meets the world in the company of other disciplines, preparing diverse leaders to solve complex global challenges.

How We Lead
- We don’t relegate ethics to a single seminar. Our students confront questions of data privacy, algorithmic bias, and digital equity directly inside systems, databases, and AI courses.
- Our degree pathways are structurally designed to accommodate dual majors, minors, and joint research ventures across the university’s premier research hubs.
- We actively direct departmental resources toward socially impactful projects and topic areas that serve the public good. We support technical solutions to societal challenges through securing programmable infrastructure, eliminating real-world vulnerabilities, and building verifiable, transparent AI, among others.
