Georgetown Art, Computer Science & Law launch Juried AI Art Competition

Posted in Announcements

Calls for submissions to the Georgetown University Juried AI Art Competition opened today. Members of the campus community and those from local institutions are invited to sign up to participate in the show as entrants (creating art for consideration in the competition) or peer jurors (evaluating the artistic creations).

The competition will culminate in an exhibition in the Georgetown University Lauinger Library Community Galleries in April 2025. Pieces selected for the exhibition will be evaluated both by peer jurors and by a panel of expert judges.

This project is organized by an interdisciplinary team of Georgetown University students – Cecile Duncan (Law), Wisdom Obinna (Computer Science), and Judy Wang (Art); Georgetown university faculty – Kristelia García (Law), Elissa Redmiles (Computer Science) and Toni-Lee Sangastiano (Art); and their collaborators Gabriel Lima and Nina Grgić-Hlača at the Max Planck Society in Germany.

Funding: This work is supported by a generous grant from Georgetown University’s Initiative on Pedagogical Uses of AI (IPAI) and the Fritz Family Fellowship. IRB protocol number: STUDY00008594.

Community impact: Matching funds equivalent to the AI-related exhibition research costs will be donated to organizations advocating for artists’ and creators’ rights in the evolving landscape of AI-generated content.
