We’re excited to share that Professor Cal Newport was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered to unpack what today’s AI can, and can’t do. While AI tools have generated enormous buzz, Newport explained that the reality hasn’t quite matched the hype:
“It’s a great piece of technology, but it was not a transformative piece of technology, and that’s what we had been promised ever since GPT-4… GPT-5 just wasn’t that.”
His insight underscores a shift in the AI landscape, one marked by the waning of rapid, exponential leaps and a growing reliance on more incremental, post-training refinements. It’s a moment that invites reflection on where the technology truly stands and how best to navigate its next phases.
